The standard protocol VHPready offers operators of decentral energy systems simple control of various capacities. The open protocol makes it possible to address different technologies in the energy system without creating a project specific technical interfaces. Instead capacities can be integrated with existing technology, if a pre-installed VHPready Interface is existent. Gateways that are available from different manufacturers can be installed to connect existing systems.
The target group for the application of VHPready are in particular national and regional energy suppliers (operators of virtual power plants) who want to bundle a wide variety of capacities in a virtual power plant. This is independent of whether it concerns wind power plants, solar plants, CHP plants, electric boilers, batteries, electric vehicles, heat pumps or other technologies. Each of the above components is identified in the communication by manufacturer-specific protocols. Cost-efficient interconnection using a higher-level controller in a virtual power plant is limited by the requirements of each individual component. In practice, safe, error-free operation of a virtual power plant with individual protocols is often difficult without the use of VHPready.
